Target Radio Market - BBC 5 Live

5 Live is my chosen radio station to aim my documentary at. The programme would be a 5 Live Investigates show scheduled on a Sunday evening at 8pm. This is due to the fact that at this time, the weekends football will be finished, allowing for a period of reflection as the weekend winds down.

This time of reflection often instigates people looking at the issues that have arisen from football over the weekend, as reflected in the show that is on beforehand, 606, with Ian Wright and Kelly Cates (on a Sunday), where football supporters across the country are urged to call in and discuss their views on events that have occurred throughout the weekend.

I feel having the documentary come in after this is almost a step up in the reflecting period of the weekend, as the issue unites football supporters in general, as opposed to what is discussed on 606, where for example, a Burnley football supporter may call up and talk about their centre back inexplicably still being played despite a poor vein of form. This type of issue is in the interest of only a section of the audience, and introducing an investigation after this, based on an issue that the core demographic of football fan listeners of 5 live would be interested in is a good way to present it.

Another point for this is the fact that supporters travelling up and down the country will still be on the road if they are coming from away fixtures, and often this is a big section of the 5 live listener base.

5 Live are also the radio station that is most suited to this type of investigation due to their sport background, and with BBC statistics being included within the piece, it would not have been suitable for another sport station such as TalkSport. The piece is also very much interview and discussion based as opposed to a full out debate, something that would be more suitable for a TalkSport publication.
