The football association, or as it's simply referred to, the FA, is the main authorative footballing body in England. It was founded in 1863 and is based at Wembley Stadium in London.

It is responsible for the rule making, law enforcement and organisation of fixtures within competitions that are within its remit, both in the amateur and professional game.

The FA gains funds through various avenues, with the main commercial asset being the FA Cup and England international fixtures, with television companies paying vast amounts to broadcast fixtures.

The FA have been criticized in recent years, with many feeling reform is needed when it comes to its investment due to a percieved decline in grassroots sport in the country. Schemes however such as "grow the game" which is set up by the FA have been created in recent years to help assist with those working at grassroots level in England.

The Grow the Game scheme looks to deliver funding for each new football club that is created that registers with the FA, in order to increase participation in the sport.
